Two people with the same score can have completely different breakdowns. This is calculated in your browser and, like your ticks, is never sent anywhere.

What is the Rice Purity Test?
The Rice Purity Test is a 100-item checklist of life experiences — dating, drinking, relationships, trouble with authority, and everything in between. You read each statement, tick the ones you have done, and the number left over is your rice purity score.
It started as an orientation-week icebreaker at Rice University and survives today because it is a fast, low-stakes way to compare notes with friends. It is not a psychological test and it does not measure your worth. It measures how many boxes you ticked.
How the score is calculated
The maths is deliberately simple, which is why the test travels so well:
- You start at 100.
- Every box you tick removes exactly one point — no hidden weighting, no question worth more than another.
- Tick nothing and you finish on 100. Tick all 100 and you finish on 0.
Some sites quietly weight certain questions more heavily, which is why your score there will not match your score with friends who used the original. This one does not: one tick, one point, every time.

How to take the Rice Purity Test
The whole thing takes about four minutes.
- Read each of the 100 statements. They are grouped into five themed sections so you can keep your place.
- Tick the ones you have done. Answer honestly. Nobody sees your ticks and they are never transmitted.
- Press "Get my score". Your score is 100 minus the number of boxes you ticked, calculated instantly in your browser.
- Read what the number means. Your score comes with the band it falls into, and you can copy a share link if you want to compare with friends.
What we do and do not store
The boxes you tick are scored in your browser and never sent to our server. When your result appears, one number — the final score — is saved so the site can count how many tests have been taken and so a share link has something to display. That is the entire record.
There is no account, no email, and nothing that identifies you. If you never touch the share button, the only thing that leaves your browser is a single integer between 0 and 100.
Before you take it seriously
- This is entertainment, not an assessment. No score means anything about your character.
- Scores drop with age and opportunity, so comparing a 17-year-old with a 27-year-old tells you about the years, not the people.
- Several questions describe experiences that may be distressing. You can stop at any point, and skipping a question costs you nothing.

What does my rice purity score mean?
Your score is 100 minus the number of statements you ticked. A score of 78 means you ticked 22 boxes. Higher means fewer experiences from this particular list; lower means more. That is the whole of it — the number is not a rating of you.
Is a high or low rice purity score better?
Neither. The scale confuses people because ticking more boxes makes the number go down, so a "low" score sounds like a failure when it just means a longer list of experiences. Among first-year university students high scores are common; a few years later they are not. Both are normal.
What is the average rice purity score?
It depends almost entirely on age. Teenagers most often land in the 80s and 90s, university students in the 50s to 70s, and adults in their mid-twenties and beyond commonly score in the 30s to 50s. There is no single average worth quoting across all groups.
How many questions are on the Rice Purity Test?
One hundred. Versions floating around with 99, 96 or 120 items are edits of the original. This site uses the full 100-item list, which is what makes scores comparable between friends.
Do you store my answers?
No. The scoring happens entirely in your browser. When your result appears we save a single number — the final score — so the site can count tests taken and so a share link has something to show. Which boxes you ticked never leaves your device.
Is the Rice Purity Test accurate?
It is accurate at counting ticks and nothing else. It has no scientific basis, was never validated, and the questions reflect a specific American university culture from a century ago. Treat it as a conversation starter.
Why do some questions use slang like "fondled" or "streaking"?
The wording is inherited from the original list and has barely changed in decades, which is exactly why some of it reads oddly now. Our questions-explained guide translates every ambiguous phrase into plain language.
Can I share my result?
Yes. After you get your score you can copy a link that shows the number, and optionally a name. It never shows which boxes you ticked, because we do not have that information.
Is there a different Rice Purity Test for girls and guys?
No. There is one list and everyone answers the same 100 questions. Reported averages differ slightly between groups, but that reflects what people report, not a different test.
Does the test cost anything or need an account?
No to both. There is no sign-up, no email, no paywall and no app to install. Open the page, tick boxes, get a number.
