Score, ticks and rough percentile
The middle column is exact arithmetic. The right-hand column is an approximation based on the spread of scores submitted to this site, and it shifts with the age of whoever is taking the test — read it as a rough sense of "how common is this", not a precise ranking.

How the distribution is shaped
Scores are not spread evenly across the scale. They pile up in two places and thin out at the edges:
- A cluster in the 80s and 90s from younger teenagers, who have only encountered the first section of the list.
- A larger cluster from the 40s to the 70s from students and adults, where most of the first two-thirds applies and most of the last third does not.
- A thin tail below 25. Getting this low requires ticking items describing rare or criminal situations, so genuine scores here are unusual.
Where the bands come from
Nobody official defines these labels. They emerged from people sharing scores online and settling into shorthand: the nineties became "innocent", the middle became "average", the low end became a punchline. We use seven bands rather than five because the top and bottom of the scale behave quite differently from the middle and deserve their own descriptions.
Other sites draw the lines in different places. If a chart elsewhere calls your 72 something different from what we call it, neither is wrong — there is no authority to appeal to.
What percentiles cannot tell you
A percentile here means "compared with other people who took this test on this site", which is a self-selected group skewed toward whoever is currently sharing it on social media. It is not a population figure. Read average score by age for the comparison that actually carries information.

How many questions do I need to tick to reach a given score?
Exactly 100 minus the score. Every question is worth one point on this site, with no weighting.
Why do other sites use different bands?
Because the labels are folklore rather than a standard. The underlying score is the same; only the names attached to ranges differ.
